Do you know that honey is not good for babies under 1 year old?

Most of us think that honey is very safe for children and often use it for children with thrush or cough. In fact, they can be dangerous for babies under 12 months old because:

Honey contains some percentage of clostridium botulinum spores, 5% - the ingredient that causes a botulism, a dangerous food poisoning.

Where do clostridium bacteria come from?

They usually thrive in soil and dust. They can also stick to surfaces such as floors, carpets

What is infant botulism?

It can happen when your baby ingests a toxin from a bacteria.

Poisoning in infants can cause muscle weakness, difficulty in  breathing, weak crying, constipation and decreased muscle tone.

When can babies eat honey?

Children over 1 year old with a mature digestive system can eat honey.
